LA JOLLA, Calif. - A lackluster offense again plagued the UC San Diego men's volleyball team as it was swept by No. 5 USC Saturday night at RIMAC Arena. Scores were 25-21, 25-14 and 27-25.

With its fourth consecutive loss, UCSD dropped to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF). USC, which was coming off a 3-1 loss at second-ranked UC Irvine Wednesday, improved to 4-3 overall and 3-3 in the MPSF.

Three of the four straight losses for UCSD have come against top-10 teams.

The Tritons hit just .122 as a team with 32 kills and 21 errors in 90 attacks. It was their second-lowest attack percentage of the season and the worst since hitting .000 in the season opener at Hawaii.

It was also the second straight match that UCSD hit south of .200 as the Tritons recorded a .186 (47-23-129) last night in a 3-2 loss against No. 6 Pepperdine.

Conversely, opponents have hit over .300 against the Tritons in the last four matches. The Trojans swung at .309 tonight with 39 kills and 14 errors in 81 attacks.

Sophomore middle blocker Sebastian Brady put in a solid effort for UCSD, finishing with a team-high eight kills and leading all players with a .545 (8-2-11) attack percentage. Sophomore setter Mike Brunsting had a team-best seven digs to go along with 21 assists and three aces.

USC's Tanner Jansen was the lone player with more than 10 kills as he finished with 14 while adding five digs. Tony Ciarelli had nine kills, two service aces, four digs and two block assists. Robert Feathers led the blocking with seven assists and libero Henry Cassiday had a match-high eight digs.

It was the sixth straight victory for USC over UCSD dating back to March of 2009. The two squads will meet again Apr. 5 at the Galen Center in Los Angeles.

UCSD plays a pair of non-conference matches next week. On Wednesday, Feb. 1, the Tritons host Princeton at 5 p.m. before traveling to Fullerton to face Hope International on Friday, Feb. 3 (7 p.m.).

The annual alumni match will be held on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m.

UCSD students are admitted free to all home matches with a valid ID.
