by UCSD

POWAY, Calif. - Playing host to the 64th Annual SoCal Intercollegiate Championship at Maderas Golf Club, the UC San Diego men's golf team sits in sixth place of eight teams after two rounds Monday.

UCSD shot a 311 in the first round and followed with a 312 in the second for a total of 623, 47-over par. Lewis Simon is the Tritons' top golfer thus far, shooting a 77-75--152, 8-over, good for a tie for eighth place.

Just six strokes separate third and sixth place.

"I'm a little disappointed in our second round today, but we have a great chance to move up with a solid round Tuesday," said first-year UCSD head coach Jim Ragan.

Fourth-ranked Cal State Monterey Bay leads the field with a two-round total of 599, 23-over par. The Otters, leading by 12 strokes, were the lone team to shoot under 600. No. 14 Cal State Stanislaus is second (+35, 611) and Central Oklahoma is third (+41, 617). Cal State Dominguez Hills fills the fourth spot (+45, 621) and St. Mary's (Texas) rounds out the top five (+46, 622).

Central Oklahoma made the biggest jump of the day, moving from a tie for sixth into third place. The Bronchos improved by 23 strokes, shooting a 297 in the second round after starting with a 320.

Cal State Monterey Bay's Dylan Jackson (+2, 146) and Jaskaran Sihota of Cal State Stanislaus are tied for the individual lead, both firing a 2-over 146 on the par-72, 7,167-yard layout. All five of CSUMB's players can be found in the top 15.

Also figuring in the team scoring for UCSD are Clayton Yamaguchi (T15th, 155), Daniel Yang (T17th, 156), Jay Lim (T29th, 163) and Jacob Corbin (T36th, 165). Ryan Rankin (T26th, 160), Jacob Williams (28th, 162) and Jeff Roseth (T34th, 164) are competing as individuals.

Just two players had under-par rounds Monday as Jackson shot a 70 in the first round and Eric Kline of Central Oklahoma carded a 71 in round two.

The Tritons were in third place after the opening round.

Cal State Stanislaus is the two-time defending team champion of the event.

Tuesday's third and final round gets underway with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
