LOS ANGELES - The UC San Diego men's tennis team entered its second day of play at the 56th Annual SoCal Intercollegiate Championships on Thursday and played a pair of matches before rain made an unexpected appearance and caused the postponement of competition.

"We didn't play bad today, but we didn't deal that well I don't think with some stoppages and stopping and starting out," said head coach Timmer Willing. "I don't think we did that well mentally as we could have, but that's the way it goes and it's rained on both sides of the court so you have to learn to deal with it because the other guy's dealing with it and we'll work from there, learn from it and move on to the next day."

In the Main Draw's Round of 32 in Collegiate Singles, Camill Salomon managed to force a tiebreaker in the first set against his opponent, Frederik Wilkens of Azusa Pacific, but fell, 7-6, prior to getting shutout in the second set, 6-0.

"Camill had chances in the tiebreaker," Willing said. "He was a little frustrated, not just a lot of rain delays. He didn't respond really well to the situation, I think, and he just needed to get control of the situation and we'll just keep working on that."

Elsewhere in the same round, Guy Giubilato played Andre Dome of Cal Poly but lost in straight sets to the Mustang, 6-3, 6-0.

"Guy actually played pretty well," Willing said. "He was in it in the first set, even though the scores don't reflect that."

At the time play was called for the day, Kona Luu trailed Michael Grant of USC, 3-6, 1-2, in the opening Round of 32 in Main Draw.

Play resumes on Friday at 10 a.m. Despite the rain delay, the full match schedule will still be played.
