UCSD Goes Undefeated at Claremont Convergence

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The UC San Diego women's water polo team earned a pair of victories Saturday afternoon at the Claremont Convergence Tournament, extending its record to a perfect 4-0 at the tourney.

The Tritons opened the final day of tourney play with an impressive 15-1 victory over Chapman and followed up with a 17-8 win over hosting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

The wins pushed UCSD over .500 for the season, upping its overall mark to 10-8.

The 14-goal differential against Chapman was the largest margin of victory for UCSD this year.

Game One
UCSD came out strong to open the second day of tournament play, posting ten of its 15 goals in the first half alone. The Tritons also managed to put the pressure on defensively, holding Chapman scoreless until the fourth quarter were they scored the lone goal and UCSD posted a 15-1 victory.

Sarah Lizotte scored a team-high four goals and two steals. Andie Nishimi posted a career high three assists against the Panthers.

Cage time was split evenly between freshman classmates Courtney Miller and Alexsee Wilcox, as they each came up with four saves, while Miller also grabbed one steal and one assist.

Game Two
The Tritons continued their winning ways to finish up the tournament as they posted seven goals in the first quarter alone, a new high for the year.

UCSD continued to post big numbers through halftime as they held a 13-2 lead at the break.

Claremont Mudd-Scripps made a small run in the third, outscoring the Tritons 5-3, but it wasn't enough to make up for the deficit made in the opening half.

Not only did UCSD have nine athletes score one or more goals, but their were also seven that came away with one or more assists. Leah Gonzales, Sarah Lizotte and Andie Nishimi all came away with two apiece.

Miller played all four quarters in the goal, making seven saves and dishing out a single-game high three assists from cage.

The Tritons return to the San Diego area next week to compete in the Aztec Invitational, hosted by San Diego State March 16-17. UCSD opens with match-ups against Cal State Northridge (9:15 a.m.) and UC Davis (2:15 p.m.).
