LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's basketball program garnered several academic awards from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) as the organization announced its annual accolades Thursday.
The Tritons earned a Team Academic Excellence Award from the NABC for posting a GPA of 3.0 or higher during the 2012-13 academic year. The award, created by the NABC Committee on Academics, is in its inaugural year.
In addition, James McCann, MacKenzie McCullough and Tyler McGrath were named to the NABC Honors Court. To qualify, a student-athlete must be a junior or senior and carry at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA.
McCann, a junior guard, is an economics major at UCSD's Marshall College. McCullough, a junior guard/forward, majors in political science at Marshall, while McGrath, a senior guard, majored in political science at Warren College.
Both McCann and McGrath were All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Second Team selections this past season.
Over 700 student-athletes representing 285 colleges and universities were named to the 2012-13 NABC Honors Court.
