SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Megan Perry and McKennan Bertsch scored 15 points apiece to propel the UC San Diego women’s basketball team to a 62-54 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) win Saturday night against San Francisco State.

After earning a conference road sweep this weekend, the Tritons now sit tied for second place in the CCAA with a 7-3 record and are 10-4 overall. San Francisco State falls to .500 in CCAA play with a 5-5 record and are 9-7 overall following the loss.

“I thought we played our most complete game of 40 minutes tonight,” said head coach Heidi VanDerveer. “We really had a great defensive effort and set the tone with our pace tonight behind Stephanie and Miranda.”

The difference maker in the game proved to be the Triton defense, who managed to hold the Gators to .279 shooting on the night after only allowing 19 field-goals on 68 attempts. The UCSD offense proved to be sufficient after shooting 22-of-56 for a mark of .393.

Perry, who was coming off an 18-point effort the night before, finished five-of-10 from the floor and recorded a double-double with 13 rebounds. She also added three assists to her complete line. Bertsch matched her career-high of points after making five-of-12 shots, while also adding five rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal in the win.

UCSD jumped out to a quick lead in the first half and eventually grabbed its largest lead of the night of 14 points with a Miranda Seto three with 9:49 left in the first period. SFSU managed to cut the UCSD lead to five at the intermission, 35-30.

SFSU came out in the second half strong to grab its first lead of the night, 42-41, with 12:41 remaining. The Gators followed with another bucket to grab their largest lead of the afternoon 44-41 before the Tritons responded with five-straight points to grab the lead for good on a Bertsch layup.

The Gators cut the lead to a pair with 4:17 to go, but the Tritons held on for the 62-54 road win at the Swamp.

The Tritons dominated on the glass and out-rebounded SFSU 52-38. Perry’s 13 boards proved to be a career-high, while Erin Dautremont added 12 rebounds and 12 points in her double-double effort.

Seto finished with 13 points and eight boards as the fourth Triton to score in double-digits, while Stephanie Yano dished out seven assists to facilitate to offense. Yano also added four points and four rebounds to her line.

“When Megan rebounds, we are a really good team,” noted VanDerveer. “It was a great team win and I’m very excited for the girls.”

San Francisco State was led by a pair of double-doubles from Katie Batlin (16 pts, 10 rbs) and Lauren Varney (11 pts, 11 rbs).

UCSD returns to RIMAC Arena next week for a pair of CCAA contests. On Friday, Jan. 31, the Tritons face Cal State Dominguez Hills at 5:30 p.m. The following night on Saturday, Feb. 1, UCSD squares off with Cal State L.A. with tipoff slated for 5:30 p.m.
