Brendan Clowry was named an assistant coach with the UC San Diego men's basketball program in May of 2014.
In his first season with the Tritons, the team went 16-11 overall and 14-8 in the CCAA, earning a berth in the conference tournament. The 16 victories were the most for the program since the 2008-09 campaign, while the 14 league wins were the most since the school went Division II prior to the 2000-01 season.
Clowry came to UCSD after spending the 2013-14 season as an assistant coach at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego. The Sea Lions posted a 20-11 record en route to winning a National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) national championship.
Prior to his time at Point Loma, Clowry spent a year as the video coordinator at the University of San Diego. During his stint, the Toreros advanced to the semifinals of the West Coast Conference Tournament.
Clowry has also coached at the Egypt British International School and the Cairo American College, both located in Cairo, Egypt. From 2010-12, he was the Athletic Director and Physical Education Department Head at the Egypt British International School.
He has also coached at various camps in the United States, Egypt and Australia.
Clowry played four years of collegiate basketball at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, N.C. As a senior during the 2003-04 season, he served as team captain and earned MVP and Team Leadership accolades.
A five-time honor roll and two-time dean's list member, Clowry was twice named to the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Academic Team. In addition, he was a member of the Student Athletic Advisory Committe at Gardner-Webb.
Clowry also has extensive professional playing experience at the international level. He has spent time with the Maadi Sports and Yacht Club in Cairo, Egypt (2011-12), the Sutherland Sharks in Sydney, Australia (2007-09), the Hobart Chargers in Hobart, Australia (2005) and the Cairns Taipans in Cairns, Australia (2004-05).
Maadi was the runner-up of the Egyptian National Basketball League in 2012, while Sutherland won the Waratah League title in 2007 and 2008.
In addition to his coaching duties, Clowry is also the Business Operations and Camps Coordinator for the UCSD Athletics Department.
Clowry earned a bachelor's degree in finance from Gardner-Webb in 2004. He and his wife, Mona, welcomed their first child, daughter Laylani, in October of 2016.
