Three Tritons Earn All-CCAA Accolades

Emily Osga was named to the All-CCAA First Team on Wednesday following a breakout sophomore campaign in 2010-11.

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - After finishing third in the California Collegiate Athletic Association regular season standings, the UC San Diego women's basketball team had three players named to all-conference squads, it was announced on Wednesday by the league office.

Guards Chelsea Carlisle and Emily Osga were All-CCAA First Team selections, while center Lauren Freidenberg earned a spot on the second team.

Carlisle earned first teams honors for the second year in a row after averaging 18.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.2 steals per game during the regular season. The junior point guard shot 41% from the field and drained a total of 73 three-pointers on the year to lead the conference's top-ranked offense. She was the CCAA's second-leading scorer, while leading the league in assists and three-pointers made. She was second in assist-to-turnover ratio and minutes per game and ranked third in steals.

Carlisle was named the conference MVP as a sophomore in 2009-10 and went on to earn State Farm Coaches First Team All-American honors.

Osga a had breakout sophomore campaign for the Tritons this season, averaging 11.5 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 29 games during the regular season. She was UCSD's second-leading scorer and rebounder and scored in double figures a total of 17 times. The San Diego native ranked in the top 15 in the CCAA in multiple categories, including scoring, rebounding, assists, steals, field goal percentage and three-point field goals made.

Freidenberg wrapped up the regular season averaging 10.8 points and 6.6 boards, while shooting 51% from the field. She was the Tritons' third-leading scorer on the year, while pacing the squad in rebounding, field goal percentage and blocked shots. She recorded a team-high four double-doubles on the year and scored 10 points or more on 17 occasions.

The Tritons finished with an overall record of 19-10 during the regular season and posted a mark of 17-5 in the CCAA standings to finish in third place behind Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal Poly Pomona. UCSD defeated sixth-seeded Chico State in the first round of the CCAA Tournament on Tuesday to advance to the semifinals this Friday on the campus of Cal State East Bay. The Tritons will take on the third-seeded Broncos at 5:30 p.m.
