SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Miranda Seto had a career-high 21 points to help lead the UC San Diego women's basketball team to a season-opening 70-65 victory at Cal State San Bernardino Sunday afternoon at Coussoulis Arena.

Seto made 8 of 16 shots from the field, including one three-pointer, and four of five free throws to account for her point total, which was also a game-high. The junior guard also added five assists and four steals to the stat sheet.

Senior guard Megan Perry finished with 13 points, equaling a career-best, while senior forward Erin Dautremont recorded 10 points and sophomore forward Taylor Hirz led the Tritons with a career-high six rebounds.

"It was a really nice team win," said UCSD head coach Heidi VanDerveer. "We grinded it out and made some big plays down the stretch. Miranda was as aggressive as I've ever seen her and Megan hit some big shots and really gave us some stability."

The Coyotes also had three players with 10 or more points, including Tayllor Gipson (19), Briana Baker (11) and Adriana Brodie (11). Jazzmyn Davis pulled down a game-high 11 boards.

UCSD hit 53.3% (24-for-45) of its shots in the game, which included a 60.9% (14-for-23) clip in the second half. However, the Tritons made only three of 12 three-point attempts. UCSD was 19-for-30 (63.3%) from the free throw line.

CSUSB shot 41.5% (22-53) for the game and out-rebounded UCSD 36 to 30.

Both teams turned the ball over 18 times.

UC San Diego led 30-25 at halftime and both squads put up 40 points in the second stanza. The Coyotes led by as many as four in the second half, but a layup by Seto with 6:57 remaining put UCSD up 47-45 and the Tritons held a lead the rest of the way. UC San Diego's largest advantage in the game was seven, occurring for the final time at 67-60 when Perry drilled a three-pointer with just 31 seconds left in the game.

It was the first time UCSD had opened a season with a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) game. Cal State San Bernardino fell to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

The Tritons play in the West Region Crossover Classic, hosted by Azusa Pacific, on Nov. 22 and Nov. 23. On Friday, UCSD takes on Seattle Pacific before facing off against sixth-ranked Western Washington Saturday.
