WASHINGTON, D.C. - The UC San Diego men's rowing team concluded action Saturday at the two-day George Washington Invitational on the Potomac River.
UCSD competed in Varsity 8, 2nd Varsity 8 and Novice 8 races against Georgetown and George Washington. The Tritons were defeated in all six events.
The Tritons' Varsity 8 crew was coxswain Sean Dougherty, Scott Kennedy, John Buda, Daniel Mahan, Cian Dowling, Will Wright, Gibb Anella, Forrest Sundquist and Matt Thalken. The crew posted a time of 5:58.50 against GW, which won in 5:51.00. Georgetown had a winning time of 5:50.00, topping UCSD's 6:00.20.
UCSD's Varsity 8 crew is ranked 20th in the most recent USRowing Collegiate Poll. George Washington is 15th.
In the 2nd Varsity 8 race against Georgetown, the Tritons crossed in 6:05.04, while the Hoyas had a time of 5:59.90. George Washington won in 5:59.80, bettering UCSD's time of 6:10.00. The Triton's 2nd Varsity 8 was coxswain Drake Lem, Zack Attaran, Jack Maxson, Jason Heinen, Robert Faris, Kyle Dickson, Scott Moso, Ian Skelton and Kyle Wilson.
The Novice 8 boat with coxswain Tida Thaipejr, Carson West, Tynan Rodger, Steven Bolton, Blake Branine, Cameron Abel, Leonardo Mercenari, Jack Rausser and Jon Baker went 6:10.20 against GW's 6:02.30. Georgetown won by almost 10 seconds, clocking in at 5:55.40 to UCSD's 6:05.20.
The Tritons' Novice 8 rowed to a victory over Holy Cross on Friday.
The Tritons finished fifth in the Oliver T. Carr Bowl standings with 12 points. George Washington was first (108 points) and was followed by Navy (93), Georgetown (90) and Holy Cross (27). Virginia finished behind UCSD in sixth place with no points.
UC San Diego competes at the Stanford Invitational April 18-19 in Redwood Shores.
