First-time national champion in the 200 butterfly, winning the event by over two full seconds at the NCAA Division II Championships on March 8 in Birmingham, Ala., while breaking his own school record in 1:45.12 ... Also placed seventh in the 100 fly and swam the fly leg of the 200 and 400 medley relays, both of which finished eighth ... Transferred to the University of California for his final two seasons of college eligibility.
U.S. OLYMPIC TEAM TRIALS
Qualified for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Omaha, Neb., ahead of the London Games, and placed in a tie for 41st in the 200 fly in 2:01.93.
AS A FRESHMAN IN 2011-12
Swam both butterfly distances at the 2012 NCAA Championships, placing fifth in the 200 (1:47.13) and 13th in the 100 (49.04) ... Did not compete at the PCSC Championships ... Had a pair of top-six finishes in the fly events at the Arena Invitational, touching third in the 200 (1:46.64) and sixth in the 100 (48.76) ... Excelled in a dual meet at Division I rival UC Santa Barbara, winning the 200 fly in 1:50.98, finishing second in the 100 fly in 51.01 and also racing the fly leg of the first-place 200 medley relay (1:33.31) ... Earned team's Rookie of the Year award ... Was second and third in the 100 (55.42) and 200 fly (2:02.00), respectively, at the Speedo Grand Challenge in May.
