WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Midfielder Anne Wethe of the UC San
Diego women's soccer team received the Wilson/California Collegiate Athletic
Association Women's Soccer Player of the Week honor for the week of Oct. 4 to Oct.
10, conference officials announced Tuesday.
Wethe, a junior from Los Alamitos, Calif., helped the Tritons capture a 1-0
road win Sunday against 15th-ranked Cal State L.A. She scored the match's lone
goal for UCSD, a squad that hasn't lost since Sept. 17. Wethe struck in the
32nd minute on a long shot from about 20 yards out above the center of the box.
The ball sailed into the upper right corner of the net.
Her scores in 2010 have come at critical times for the Tritons, as all three of
her goals this season have proved to be game winners. Wethe is now fourth on
the UCSD squad in points with eight, having already matched last year's goal
total of three.
She also was active in last Friday's 2-1 win at Cal State Dominguez Hills,
registering an assist on the match's first score from Sarah McTigue.
Wethe and the Tritons, now ranked at No. 22 nationally, will return to action
Friday when they host Chico State at 4:30 p.m.
