LA JOLLA, Calif. - UC San Diego soccer standout Cassie Callahan was named a San Diego Hall of Champions Star of the Month for September, it was announced on Tuesday.
Callahan was honored along with three professional, six other amateur and six high school athletes that either compete for San Diego-area schools, are from San Diego, or both.
A sophomore midfielder, Callahan has helped lead the Tritons to a 7-1-1 start, a No. 5 national ranking and a first-place standing in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The Coronado native leads UCSD in goals (6), points (14), game-winning goals (3), shots (25) and shots on goal (11). She scored game-winning goals in overtime matches against CCAA opponents San Francisco State and Cal State San Bernardino.
Also among the September honorees were Logan Forsythe of the San Diego Padres, Malcolm Floyd of the Chargers and Reggie Bush, a Helix High grad that plays with the Miami Dolphins.

The Hall of Champions, located in San Diego's Balboa Park, stemmed from the concept of the Breitbard Athletic Foundation. The Breitbard Athletic Foundation was founded in 1946 to promote educational work, to encourage competition and to recognize significant athletic achievements in San Diego.
The UC San Diego women's soccer team enters into the second half of its 2012 regular season this week as it travels to Somona State on Friday, Oct. 5 and Humboldt State on Sunday, Oct. 7.
