TOWSON, Md. - UC San Diego women's soccer players Cassie Callahan, Hayley Johnson and Ellen Wilson have earned spots on the prestigious Capital One Academic All-America Third Team for NCAA Division II women's soccer.

It is the first Academic All-America distinction for all three players, with Callahan, a sophomore out of Coronado with a 3.9 grade-point average in mathematics, eligible for the first time. Thirteen players were chosen for the third team. All three Tritons were earlier first-time Capital One Academic All-District 8 First Team honorees.

Johnson is a Santa Rosa native with a 3.4 GPA in environmental systems, with Wilson, a fellow senior tri-captain out of Santa Ana, a communication major with a 3.62 GPA.

UCSD's three stalwarts were Daktronics All-West Region First Team selections, with Callahan and Johnson also All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) First Team picks. Wilson was an All-CCAA Second Team choice as the CCAA Most Valuable Defensive Player for 2012.

Armstrong and Minnesota State were the only other two schools besides UCSD to place as many as three student-athletes on any of the three teams, with a total of 34 recognized.

The only other CCAA honorees were junior forward Karenee Demery (first team) and senior midfielder Bernie Bettencourt (second team) of Cal State Stanislaus. Megan Woodworth (3.88 in chemical engineering), a senior midfielder from Colorado School of Mines, was named the Academic All-America of the Year.

UCSD is in Georgia for the final two rounds of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship. The fifth-ranked Tritons take on No. 3 Grand Valley State of Allendale, Mich., on Thursday, Nov. 29 (2 p.m. PT) in the NCAA Semifinals in Evans.
