LA JOLLA, Calif. - Sarah Lizotte broke the UC San Diego career all-time scoring record as the Tritons (6-2) split a pair of games at the 2014 Triton Invitational Sunday, falling to No. 12 Long Beach State, 9-7, before beating No. 20 Santa Clara, 11-7, at Canyonview Aquatic Center.

The senior passed UCSD Hall of Fame member, Olympian and former captain of the U.S. National Water Polo team Julie Swail’s all-time mark of 245 with her second goal of the day against LBSU and finished the day with seven total scores to give her a career total of 251.

In the morning session, Long Beach State jumped out to a 4-2 lead at the intermission. The Tritons were held to a goal in each period, one from Alexis Wieseler in the first and one from Lizotte in the second.

UCSD managed to tie the game in the third at five apiece following a Wieseler goal. Long Beach State, however, closed the quarter with two scores to grab a 7-6 advantage as the final period approached.

The Tritons cut the deficit to one, 8-7, following a Lizotte score, but LBSU closed out the win with a goal in the final minute to win, 9-7.

Lizotte finished the game with four goals, while Wieseler added two and Leah Gonzales found the back of the cage once. Courtney Miller recorded nine saves in the cage in the loss.

LBSU was led by four scores from Chelsea Parks in the win.

In the final game of the Invite, the Tritons opened the game with two consecutive scores from Bartow and Lizotte to grab a quick 2-0 lead. After the Broncos tied the game, UCSD closed the period with scores from Jolene Guiliana and Laurel Kistler to lead 4-2 after one.

The Tritons were held to a single score in the second and led 5-4 at halftime.

After each team exchanged goals in the third, UCSD exploded with four consecutive goals in the final period to take control of the game. Bartow started the scoring by finding the back of the net before Julia Kirkland fired in a goal. Bartow and Kirkland followed with consecutive scores again to power UCSD to the 11-7 win.
