SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - After two rounds of play Monday, the UC San Diego men's golf team sits in a tie for fourth place of 17 squads at the Coyote Classic, hosted by Cal State San Bernardino at Arrowhead Country Club.

UCSD shot a 287 in the opening round and a 290 in the second for a 17-over 577 on the par-70, 6,624-yard course.

Clayton Yamaguchi and Jay Lim lead the Tritons, tied for 10th place at 142, 2-over par. Yamaguchi opened with a 68 and followed with a 74, while Lim shot a 74 in his first round.

A trio of California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) teams own the top three spots, with No. 7 Chico State first (+3, 563), No. 4 Cal State Monterey Bay second (+6, 566) and 17th-ranked Cal State Stanislaus third (+8, 568).

UCSD is tied with Redlands for fourth.

“We had several bright spots today,” said first-year UCSD head coach Jim Ragan. “Clayton and Jay both shooting 68 really helped the team and we’re looking forward to tomorrow’s final round."

The individual leader is Trevor Clayton of Cal State Stanislaus, who is 8-under with a 132. He shot a 62 in round two. A total of five players finished under par Monday.

Also in the lineup for UCSD are Lewis Simon (T-37th, 148), Jeff Roseth (T-61st, 152) and Daniel Yang (San Diego/Westview HS) (T-65th, 153).

Last season, UCSD was tied for seventh after day one of the Coyote Classic and finished in a tie for eighth with Colorado State-Pueblo.

The third and final round gets underway at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
