The UC San Diego women’s volleyball team plays its final home matches of the 2007 campaign on November 9-10.  The Tritons have been ranked nationally all season and enter the week as the No. 3 team in the NCAA Pacific Region.  With the postseason lurking, UCSD is hitting its stride, having defeated the last three ranked opponents it's played, including 2nd-ranked Cal State San Bernardino on its home court.  Senior setter Kim Adams is one of five Triton seniors, who will be making their final collegiate appearances in RIMAC Arena this weekend.  The four-year letterwinner recently took time to discuss the current season and life as a student-athlete on the UCSD women’s volleyball team.

Q- The volleyball team lost 3-of-4 earlier this season, but has come on strong of late, winning nine of the last 11.  How do you feel about how the team is playing right now?  Have there been any differences you’ve noticed?

ADAMS- I feel like our team is really focused on our first goal of winning regionals. We have been taking one game at a time and approaching each as another step towards our goal. We compete very hard in practice and I believe that works in our favor when it comes to matches.

Q- Does it seem like the four years at UCSD have just flown by?  What are some of your favorite memories and what will you miss?

ADAMS- Yes! Definitely! I can't even believe how fast it went. People warned me it would go by fast but I seriously didn’t believe it would go by this fast.  Some of my favorite memories would be going traveling to Colorado my freshmen year and Hawaii my senior year.  I will never forget going to nationals in Florida, that was an experience of a lifetime.

I will never forget "glee club," which made some pretty hysterical video footage. I will miss road trips for sure. They were always so much fun and our team grew really close over the years. The memories I will keep with me forever are the relationships I built with each and every girl on the team. They are all amazing people and awesome friends. Words cannot describe how much I will miss them after I graduate.

Q- You have had an increased role on the team during the latter part of this season.  Is there a part of your game that you have been working on in practice?

ADAMS- I have been working on the mental aspect of the game a lot as well as my serving, blocking and defense.

Q- Saturday’s match against Cal State Monterey Bay is senior night.  Will it be just another match for you or something more?

ADAMS- I am going to approach the match just like any other but when it’s over it probably will hit me that its my last home game. I'm also really excited because my best friend, who I grew up playing volleyball with, is on the other team and I'm glad I get to play my last home match against her.

Q- So far this season, UCSD’s big win has to be the five-gamer at No. 2 Cal State San Bernardino.  Discuss that match a bit.

ADAMS- The match was the most intense match I've ever played.  (Our fans were amazing also) I'm so proud of our team for coming back after losing the first two games. We never gave up and fought so hard to win the next three. Once we won the third and fourth game I knew we were going to win the fifth, those are our specialties (we play them a lot in practice). It felt so good to beat them for so many reasons such as, they were undefeated until playing us, they have always been our rivals in conference, they are a more physical team and have a bunch of tall girls on scholarships. But most of all, our team works so hard all year and it finally paid off in this match.

Q-What are your after graduation plans?  What would you like to do with your Human Development degree?

ADAMS- My dream is to travel for awhile and go places like South Africa, Australia and Costa Rica. But if that doesn’t happen then I probably will start getting my teaching credential. I want to be an elementary school teacher, I love working with kids and I can’t wait to start teaching!

Q- What do you enjoy doing when you are not on the volleyball court?

ADAMS- Most of my day is either spent on the court, in the weight room, in class or on the road. I really do not have that much free time. But going to the beach is my all-time favorite thing to do, but its gotten too cold to do that recently. I love doing anything with my teammates, I can never be around them too much.  We always have so much fun together whatever we are doing.

Q- What is always playing on your ipod?

ADAMS- A bunch of random, upbeat and inspirational songs.  I pretty much like everything, and of course country, it always puts me in a good mood.

Q- What is something about you that most people do not know?

ADAMS-  This is really random, and a lot of people don’t know this, but I have a split uvula (it’s the piece of skin that hangs down in the back of your throat) and I can make this purring sound like a cat or lion, yes its really weird, I know.

Q- Do you have a favorite pre-game meal?

ADAMS-  A cliff or luna bar,  something easy to digest, and definitely an apple! I heard it gives you more energy than a cup of coffee!

Q- Which women’s volleyball student-athlete had the best Halloween costume?

ADAMS- Probably Hannah Gary, she was the Chiquita banana lady and made this really cool fruit hat.
