BUFFALO, New York – The UC San Diego men’s and women’s swimming teams completed the third day of the four day NCAA Division II National Championships on Friday night in Buffalo, N.Y.  Evan Hsiao headlined the day for the Tritons, becoming a National Champion in the 100 breast.  Hsiao raced to a time of 55.51, taking first-place in the event.  The UCSD women’s team stands in third place after the third day of competition with 243 points.  The women’s team leader is Drury with 478 points.  The Triton men’s team is in fifth place overall with 204 points.  Other notable finishes for the UCSD women came in the 200 fly as Jennifer Sims finished in third place, while Karla Holman finished eighth in the same event.  Kendall Bohn finished eighth in the 100 breast and Shannon Simonds won the consolation final in the 500 free.

On the men’s side in addition to Hsiao’s championship in the 100 breast, Devin Ancona finished 16^th in the 100 back with a time of 53.00.  In the 200 fly, Jesse Marin finished in 15^th place with a time of 1:54.45.  The men’s 800 free relay of Jacob Dong, Artur Kubalski, Greg Goodell and J.P. Oliver finished eighth with a time of 6:53.74.

On the women’s side, Shannon Simonds finished ninth with a time of 5:02.98, winning the consolation final.  In the 100 breast, Kendall Bohn finished in eighth place with a time of 1:06.15.  In the 200 fly, Jennifer Sims finished third (2:05.54) and Karla Holman finished eighth in 2:09.97.  The 800 free relay team of Susan Bell, Emily Harlan, Aubrey Panis and Simonds finished third with a time of 7:35.74.

The UC San Diego men’s and women’s swimming teams are back in action tomorrow at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center.
