OPENING WEEKEND STILL KIND TO UCSD

UCSD won last weekend's series with Western Oregon, February 1 and 2, taking both games on Saturday with a total of 17 runs. Since UCSD's move to Division II in 2001, the Tritons are 41-12 overall and 20-4 since 2008 on opening weekend.

SCOUTING CSUSB
The Coyotes are recently coming off a 1-1 split with Azusa Pacific this past weekend. CSUSB came back to win game two 5-3, after dropping a 6-4 eight inning decision in the season opener. Right handed pitcher Kaitlin Randall earned the save in the night cap as she pitched the final two innings.

WHEN WE LAST MET THE COYOTES
UCSD last traveled to Coyote Park at Cal State San Bernardino the weekend of March 2 and 3 in 2012. The 20th-ranked Tritons beat CSUSB 3-2 in the opening game, but fell short 5-4 in the evening affair. Head coach Patti Gerckens earned her 500th career victory as the Tritons took the series 3-1. UCSD's record moved to 15-7 overall, 11-5 in CCAA play. The Coyotes at the time, sat at 8-13 overall and 4-8 in conference competition.

CLIMBING THE CHART
Junior Caitlin Brown popped her 12th career homerun in game three with Western Oregon this past weekend. The catcher currently sits at the number five spot on the programs record list. Brown is on track to make moves up the list as she currently sits behind 1986 graduate Pam Hardaway with 14.

LIVE COVERAGE
All UCSD home games at Triton Softball Field this season will feature a live stats. Weekend games during the conference season will also have audio commentary, with former Triton pitcher Tim Strombel calling the action. Fans can access live stats from the Schedule/Results tab of the softball page at UCSDtritons.com. Most road games will also at minimum have live stats available.

GLANCE BACK AT 2012
In 2012, the Tritons won 45 games for the second year in a row, matching the school record set in 2011. UCSD went 10-4 in the NCAA Tournament and won the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament title for the first time in program history. Head Coach Patti Gerckens' squad survived nine consecutive elimination games during the tournament run prior to the national championship game, where they met up with Valdosta State, dropping a heartbreaking 4-1 decision to the Blazers for the national title.

CATCH 'EM WHILE YOU CAN
Although this season features 36 regular season games, the Tritons will only play to a home crowd six days this year. This begins this Wednesday with the series against Cal State San Bernardino. UCSD returns to Triton Softball Field Feb. 22 and 23 to host Sonoma State, and your last opportunity to watch UCSD softball play on campus is March 29 and 30 when they host San Francisco State in a two-day series.
