SCOUTING SONOMA STATE
The Seawolves currently hold a 8-3 overall record for the spring. Coming to UCSD, Sonoma State is fresh off of its CCAA series opener with San Francisco State where the Seawolves earned a 3-1 series win over the Gators. Ali Palermo led at bat, with three home runs, a double and five RBIs just in the second day of play. This performance earned Palermo CCAA Player of the Week on Feb. 18. Meanwhile, day two freshman pitcher Amanda Llerena (4-1) earned a pair of shutout victories in the circle allowing just six hits and no walks in 11 innings. Llerena was also recognized by receiving CCAA Pitcher of the Week.

WHEN WE LAST MET
The two squads last met mid-season 2012 for a four game series in Rohnert Park. After splitting the first doubleheader, the Tritons came back to sweep day two, due in part to the Tritons pitchers. Camille Gaito and Jennifer Manuel held Sonoma State scoreless as UCSD shutout SSU 1-0 and 3-0. The Tritons capitalized on RBI triples from Mya Romero and Kirsten Willmon in the final game of the series.

AROUND THE CCAA
Now that everyone has begun conference play, the Tritons share a 3-1 record with Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State Monterey Bay, and Sonoma State with Humboldt State leading the conference after a 4-0 series sweep over Cal State East Bay. Kayla Hensel currently leads the CCAA in total wins, with six (6-1).

FIRST HONORS ROLL IN

The Tritons received their first honors of the season with back-to-back CCAA accolades as Nicole Spangler earned Player of the Week on Feb. 4 and Kayla Hensel was named Pitcher of the Week this past Monday, Feb. 11.also received conference recognition, earning CCAA Pitcher of the Week.

CLIMBING THE CHART

Junior Caitlin Brown popped her 12th career homerun in game three with Western Oregon on Saturday, Feb. 4. The catcher currently sits at the number five spot on the programs record list. Brown is on track to make moves up the list as she currently sits behind 1986 graduate Pam Hardaway with 14. Jenny Maze (2005-08) owns the program record with 35 career home runs.
