The No. 6 Lumberjacks have won the 2013 CCAA regular-season title with a six-game lead in the CCAA standings and only four contests left to play... HSU has also clinched the No. 1 seed in the upcoming CCAA Championship Tournament... UCSD is second and needs one win to secure a spot in the league tourney... Chico State has taken over the third spot in the conference standings after a huge four-game sweep over No. 16 Sonoma State, which now sits in fourth... Cal State Dominguez Hills continues to fight for a postseason berth after improving to 17-15 with its four wins at Cal State Monterey Bay.

The Tritons traveled to Arcata to play top-seeded No. 6 Humboldt State last week… The Lumberjacks came away with a series sweep over the Tritons… UCSD is currently second in the CCAA standings, with a 21-11 conference record (28-20 overall)… Freshman pitcher Alexis Edwards leads the CCAA with an ERA of 1.27, while junior Jennifer Manuel is ninth in the conference in the same category with a 2.41 ERA… Caitlin Brown leads UCSD in hitting with seven home runs, 36 RBI and a .528 slugging percentage…  Emily McQuaid is third in the conference in stolen bases with 21… Taylor Sepulveda, Caitlin Brown and Mya Romero are the only three Tritons to earn a spot in the starting lineup in all 48 games.

While this weekend’s trip to Chico is strictly business, playing on the road is no stranger to this Triton squad. UCSD has played the majority of this year’s schedule away from home - 20 of the team's CCAA games and 12 tournament contests have been played away from Triton Softball Field. A total 36 of the Tritons' 52-game regular season schedule will be on the road, as their last home series was March 29-30 against San Francisco State.

The Wildcats are coming off a series sweep over Sonoma State, showing they can go the distance as two of the wins came in the eighth inning of play… Desiree Gonzalez holds a team- high .354 batting average with five home runs while Emily McEnaney and Kayla McConnell sit at .333… McEnaney also posts a team-high 47 hits… Alli Cook leads Chico with 28 runs and is currently 18-for-19 on stolen base attempts… On the mound, Alex Molina is currently 13-5 with 82 strikeouts and a 2.47 ERA while McConnell has a team best 2.30 ERA with 70 strikeouts of her own.

UCSD took game one of the 2012 series with Chico State at Triton Softball Field. The Wildcats ended up winning the series 3-1, each game by a small margin, but UCSD owns a 31-19 (.620) all-time record against Chico State.

Mya Romero leads the conference in assists with 119 on the year. Romero broke into the hundreds the weekend of April 5-7 at the Mizuno Tournament of Champions. The first in the conference to reach the mark, only three others have joined Romero. She now has 408 career assists, second in school history. She owns UCSD's single season record with 177 in 2012.

Emily McQuaid ranks third in the CCAA and leads the Tritons with 21 stolen bases, showing she's a runner to keep your eye on. McQuaid had a single game-high three steals against Regis University on Feb. 17 and again at home against San Francisco State on March 29. McQuaid now sits at No. 4 on the program's career top-10 with 47 swipes.

Junior Caitlin Brown connected for her 18th career home run in game two at Humboldt State on Friday, April 19. The catcher has made moves up the program's career record list this season. Starting at the number five spot, she is now tied with Amy Mettee (2001-04) at third... Jenny Maze (2005-08) owns the program record with 35 career home runs.

The Tritons came away with a pair of run-rule wins (leading by eight or more runs after five innings) against Cal State Stanislaus April 12-13, bringing their season total to five. The first two came in the regular season opening series with Cal State San Bernardino, the other in the night cap of the March 8 doubleheader at Cal State East Bay. Last season, UCSD was able to accomplish the feat nine times.

UCSD remains in the mix among the top West Region programs in the second week of the NCAA's regional rankings, coming in at No. 8. Of the teams in this week’s poll, five schools are from the PacWest, four are from the CCAA and one is from the GNAC. The Division II National Softball Committee will make postseason selections on May 5th, with the selection show airing later that evening.
