INDIANAPOLIS – UC San Diego has been selected as one of the 64 teams that will participate in the 2014 NCAA Division II Softball Championship, the NCAA announced Monday on its selection show.
UCSD will be making its fourth straight regional appearance, a stretch that includes a National Championship in 2011 and a National Runner-Up finish in 2012.
The Tritons received an at-large bid and was tabbed the No. 6 seed in the West Regional. UCSD was placed in the West Region Two bracket in St. George, UT.
The region bracket features host Dixie State, Humboldt State and Central Washington.
UCSD will face Humboldt State, for the sixth meeting of 2014, on Friday, May 9 at 12 p.m. (PT).
The double-elimination tournament continues Saturday with one game matching Friday's winners, followed by two elimination games. Sunday's schedule is slated for the championship game, with the chance of a doubleheader if the remaining teams each have one loss.
The winner will advance to the West Region Super Regional, set for May 18-19 at a site to be determined. The opponent will be the winner of the West Region One, which features Cal State Monterey Bay, California Baptist, Sonoma State and Western Oregon.
The winner will move on to the NCAA Division II Softball Championships, scheduled for May 22-26 at the Moyers Sports Complex in Salem, Va., where it will contend for the national title against teams representing seven other regions.
All of the games in the regional at Dixie State will have audio coverage, with a few games having video streaming through DixieAthletics.com website. Live stats will also be available for all tournament games on DixieAthletics.com.
Tickets for the tournament will be available at the gate, priced at $10 general admission and $7 for seniors and $2 for a student and child.
