Caitlin Brown Named Daktronics All-America Honorable Mention

LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego’s Caitlin Brown has been selected to the 2014 Daktronics, Inc. All-America softball team, as voted on by the Sports Information Directors. The announcement was made Wednesday.

Brown received All-America Honorable Mention honors at utility after splitting time at catcher and first base in 2014. It marks the first All-America distinction for the senior.

Brown compiled a .329 batting average in 51 starts this season and led the Tritons in RBI (36), doubles (12), walks (15), putouts (343) and co-led in home runs (3). She tallied a team-high nine games of recording multi-RBI, and held a team-high 16 game reached base streak in 2014.

The Rancho Palos Verdes native was also a Daktronics, Inc. All-West Region First Team member and an All-CCAA First Team performer this season.

She concludes a four-year career in a Triton uniform second on UCSD career all-time RBI list with 124, second on the walks list with 84, second on the putouts list with 1,090, third on the career home runs list with 23, fourth on the hits list with 197 and fifth on the fielding percentage list with a .983 mark.

For her career, she is a three-time Daktronics All-West Region honoree, a three-time All-CCAA performer and a national champion in 2011. She was a UCSD Athlete of the Year and UCSD's Karen E. Reis Award winner for leadership on campus and community service in 2013. She currently serves as the president of the Triton Athletes’ Council (SAAC).

The Tritons concluded the 2014 season at 34-18. UCSD made its fourth straight appearance at the NCAA West Regional and finished with at least 30 wins or more in the eighth consecutive season under head coach Patti Gerckens.
