Tritons Dominate Sonoma State, 8-1

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The 27th-ranked UC San Diego women's tennis team cruised to an 8-1 victory against Sonoma State at Northview Courts Friday afternoon.

UCSD upped its season mark to 6-2 while SSU fell to 5-4. 

The Tritons started off strong, sweeping all three doubles matches. At No. 1, Melissa Breisacher and Kyra Scott outlasted Sara Celma and Chloe Jolliff, 9-8. The No. 2 tilt went to Paula Chou and Jacquelyn Davis, who downed Lauren Ha and Sheena Johnson by a score of 8-2. Melinda Chu and Tara Vanooteghem took an 8-2 win against Lauren Shafer and Megan White at No. 3.

Chou and Davis are now 7-1 as a doubles team this season.

In singles play, UCSD won at No. 2 through No. 6, all in straight sets. Scott was victorious at No. 2 and was followed by Chou, Chu, Vanooteghem and Davis. Scott improved to 7-0 in her freshman season, while Vanooteghem's win at No. 5 kept her perfect record intact at 8-0.

In the midst of a seven-match home streak, the Tritons host Rollins on Sunday, March 3 at 11 a.m. Out of Winter Park, Fla., Rollins is ranked 19th nationally and eighth in the South Region. The teams last met in 2011 when the Tars took a 7-2 win in La Jolla.
