TRITONS CONTINUE SEASON-LONG ROAD STRETCH IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
UCSD resumes its season-long eight-game road stretch with a four-game series at 22nd-ranked California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) rival Sonoma State this weekend. UCSD is 11-8 overall and 6-6 in the CCAA. Sonoma State is 10-4 overall and 2-2 in league play. Both teams are coming off of series splits last week.

WEEKEND MATCH-UPS
This weekend's four-game series with Sonoma State at Seawolf Diamond in Rohnert Park begins on Friday, Mar. 8, with a 2 p.m. first pitch. Following a doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 9, starting at 11 a.m., the set concludes on Sunday, Mar. 10, again with an 11 a.m. first pitch. Friday's opener will see Triton ace Ryan Goodbrand (5-0, 1.41 ERA) back on the mound, attempting to extend his streak of winning decisions to 10 straight starts and improve on his unblemished season (5-0) and career (16-0) marks as a Triton. The remainder of either side's probable pitching rotation was unavailable at press time. UCSD is 4-3 outside of La Jolla this season and 2-1 against ranked foes. Sonoma State has protected its home turf to the tune of an 8-2 mark. After Sunday's finale in Rohnert Park, this current road segment for UCSD closes with single games at Cal State L.A. on Mar. 14-15.

LIVE COVERAGE
All UCSD home games at Triton Ballpark this season again feature a live online video stream and live stats, both free of charge. Weekday conference home games have audio commentary, with former Triton pitcher Tim Strombel (2007-08) calling the action. Fans can access live video and live stats from the Schedule/Results tab of the baseball page at UCSDtritons.com. Road games have live stats available at minimum, with links active at that same location on the baseball team's Schedule/Results page. This weekend's games in Rohnert Park will also have live audio/video, free of charge through Ustream. Finally, starting lineups, live between-inning updates and other in-game news and notes can be found during home contests by following Triton Baseball all season long on the UCSD Athletics Twitter handle (@UCSDtritons).

SCOUTING SONOMA STATE
Sonoma State (10-4, 2-2 CCAA) split a four-game set with Cal State East Bay last weekend. The sides contested back-to-back doubleheaders in Rohnert Park Friday and in Hayward Saturday, with the Seawolves pulling out narrow 3-2 victories in the nightcap each time. East Bay roared back from a six-run deficit in the series opener, scoring nine unanswered over its final two turns at-bat to fall, 9-6. Harmen Sidhu (2-1, 0.47 ERA) has started every series opener for the Seawolves this season, and leads the team with 24 strikeouts over 19.0 innings. The senior right-hander has allowed a single run in 2013, and teams are hitting just .125 against him. Senior Devon Zenn paces the offense with a .404 batting average and 11 RBI. Senior outfielder Steven Filippi, like Zenn a left-handed hitter, has team bests of 12 runs and six stolen bases (on seven attempts). Freshman right-hander Steven Zaharias (0-1, 1.08 ERA) has notched a pair of saves over four appearances, all in relief. As a team, Sonoma State boasts the top ERA in the conference of 1.66, while hitting .271 and fielding at a .959 clip with 16 unearned runs against them off of 21 charged errors. John Goelz is in his 28th season in charge at Sonoma State with over 900 career wins.

SERIES HISTORY
UCSD leads the all-time series, 31-26. The Seawolves will be looking this weekend to avenge a 2012 season that saw the Tritons take six out of a total of seven head-to-head match-ups, all in La Jolla. After sweeping the four-game regular-season set, UCSD faced off with Sonoma State three more times at home in the CCAA Championship, and ultimately retained its tournament trophy. Over their last two trips north to Rohnert Park, the Tritons are 4-4. They won their 2011 series there, 3-1, upsetting the then-No. 16 Seawolves as the 21st-ranked team in the land. UCSD's last series defeat to SSU came in its previous visit to Seawolf Diamond, also by a 3-1 count. That set featured some remarkable pitching and great drama as all four contests were decided by a single run (2-1, 3-2, 3-2, 2-3).

UCSD IN THE WEST
UCSD is tied with Cal Poly Pomona for sixth in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) West Region Top 10, released on Mar. 4. The Tritons and Broncos (29 points apiece) are rated behind Chico State (60), which picked up all six first-place votes, Dixie State (54), Cal State Monterey Bay (39), Sonoma State (37) and Cal State L.A. (35). D2 Baseball News has UCSD ranked seventh in the West, with this week's opponent, Sonoma State, in sixth.

#GOODSTART #GOODYSTART
Ryan Goodbrand has picked up right where he left off in 2012. The right-handed staff ace has earned the winning decision in each of his five starts thus far. He threw 31.1 innings of shutout baseball prior to surrendering a five-run sixth to Cal Poly Pomona in a 7-6 home victory on Feb. 28. Goodbrand's senior campaign began with a workmanlike five frames against then-No. 20 Colorado Mesa at home on Feb. 1, when he allowed just three hits without a walk, retiring six Mavericks on strikes and four more on ground balls of the 15 outs he recorded before exiting on a 75-pitch limit. At Grand Canyon on Feb. 8, Goodbrand's no-hit bid was broken up on an infield single with one out in the sixth. He was replaced after that inning with just two hits and two walks against him. Back home on Feb. 15 in UCSD's conference opener, Goodbrand scattered three hits over 7.0 scoreless frames, striking out 11, believed to be his highest single-game output at any level of organized baseball. At Cal State Dominguez Hills on Feb. 21, he gave up five singles and a walk with eight strikeouts in 8.0 innings. Goodbrand is now an undefeated 16-0 in his 20 career starts in a Triton uniform, with winning decisions in nine straight appearances. He has gone a minimum of 5.0 frames in all 20 stints on the mound, with a pair of nine-inning complete games a year ago. UCSD is 18-2 when Goodbrand starts.

STEAL WHEELS
The Tritons are right back atop the CCAA in steals in 2013 with 34 so far on 45 attempts. Danny Susdorf has been successful on all 13 of his personal tries, leading the conference in thefts. Dillon Moyer is tied for third with seven on eight attempts. UCSD led the CCAA and ranked 27th nationally in the NCAA Division II with 103 stolen bases in 2012, achieving a new single-season program record. The previous mark of 101 had been set in 1985 and matched in 1988.

SUSDORF'S GOLD-GLOVE STREAK
Danny Susdorf has handled 208 defensive chances in a row without an error, spanning 86 appearances dating back to his last charged error on April 29, 2011, at Chico State. He put away all 125 opportunities without a miscue in 2012 and 48 thus far to begin the 2013 season, including an outfield assist at Grand Canyon.

MOYER MAKING AN IMPACT
Junior Dillon Moyer, the son of long-time former Major League Baseball pitcher and 2003 MLB All-Star Jamie Moyer, has started all 19 games so far at shortstop in his first season with the Tritons. The transfer from Division I UC Irvine is hitting .333 and has both a four-hit (Feb. 10) and four-RBI (Feb. 17) game to his credit in 2013. Moyer produced his first collegiate home run, a three-run shot, versus Cal Poly Pomona on Mar. 1. He has seven steals on eight attempts and 14 runs.

LA FACE'S STREAKS
Junior catcher/DH Nick La Face has drawn 76 starts in a row dating back to the 2012 season opener. He has also reached base safely in 28 consecutive games, with the last nine of 2012, and each of the first 19 contests this year.
