SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The No. 17 UC San Diego women's water polo team earned a pair of victories at the Aztec Invitational on the campus of San Diego State University Saturday.
The Tritons opened tournament play with a 7-6 victory over No. 13 Cal State Northridge, followed by another 7-6 win over No. 16 UC Davis.
UCSD now holds a 12-8 overall record as they ride a six-game winning streak.
Courtney Miller played all eight quarters in goal for the Tritons, coming up with 15 saves.
Sarah Lizotte finished with five goals on the day, while Alexis Wieseler scored a single-game high four goals to lead the Tritons in game one all afternoon.
Second half play proved to be the Tritons strength throughout both games, as UCSD outscored their opponents in the third quarter en route to one goal victories.
Both CSUN and UCD entered halftime with a one goal lead over the Tritons.
In game one, the Tritons outscored the Matadors 3-1 in the third, which proved to be the difference as they matched each other at two apiece in the fourth.
The Tritons finished with better execusion on man-up situations, going 2-for-5 while the Matadors went 3-for-7.
In game two, the Tritons outscored the Aggies 4-2 in the third and again tied through the final eight minutes of play.
Defense kept the Tritons alive against UCD as they posted 12 steals as a team. Allison Delgado led with four respectively.
The Tritons continue tournament play at the Aztec Invitational on Sunday, Mar. 17 playing No. 11 Indiana at 8:00 a.m and complete the weekend facing Bucknell at 1:45 p.m.Game 1
