UCSD Sixth After Two Rounds at Hanny Stanislaus Invite

TURLOCK, Calif. - Playing in its final tournament prior to championship season, the UC San Diego men's golf team is sixth of 16 teams following Monday's two rounds at the 40th Hanny Stanislaus Invitational.

UCSD totaled a 34-over par 610, shooting a 300 in the opening round and a 310 in the second at the Turlock Golf and Country Club.

Host Cal State Stanislaus, ranked 15th nationally, leads the field with a 2-under 574 and is the only team to finish below par. No. 8 Cal State Monterey Bay is second, 15 strokes behind the Warriors with a 589. Sonoma State is third with a 603, 10th-ranked Western Washington is fourth at 605 and No. 23 Chico State rounds out the top five with a 609.

Individually, Jay Lim leads the Tritons in a tie for fourth place. The sophomore is 2-over par, firing a two-round total of 146. He shot a 71 in the first round and a 75 in the second. Lim was tied for second place with three other players after the opening round.

Stanislaus owns the top three individual spots. Trevor Clayton is first with a 6-under 138, while Paul Smith is second (-2, 142) and Tyler Barker is third (+1, 145).

Also playing for UCSD, Fredrik Palmer-Picard is tied for 26th (+10, 154), Lewis Simon is tied for 38th (+13, 157), Clayton Yamaguchi is tied for 44th (+14, 158) and Ryan Rankin is tied for 64th (+19, 163).

Last season, the Tritons finished 11th of 20 teams at the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational. Simon was UCSD's top finisher, tied for 26th.

Round three gets underway Tuesday at 8 a.m. on the par-72, 6,641-yard course.
