LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Nicole Spangler of the UC San Diego softball team has been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-West Region First Team. The announcement was made by the NFCA Friday.
Spangler, a first-time winner, has posted a strong senior campaign with the Tritons. She leads the team with a .347 batting average, 13 doubles and 18 walks and ranks second with 26 RBI, a .451 slugging percentage and 236 putouts.
The Kirkland, Wash., native also recently received All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) First Team honors for her play over the course of the regular season.
Spangler went 7-for-11 (.635) with four runs and seven RBI in the season-opening series with Western Oregon, earning CCAA Player of the Week honors.
Eight of the 13 All-West Region First Team selections are from CCAA squads.
NFCA member coaches in each of the eight regions selected this year’s All-Region teams and all honorees now become eligible for selection to one of three NFCA Division II All-American squads, which will be announced next week.
