by UCSD

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego softball program has named former Triton standouts Camille Gaito and Kris Lesovsky assistant coaches. The announcement was made Wednesday by head coach Patti Gerckens.

“To have Camille and Kris back with the program is a great honor,” said Gerckens. “They possess an impressive love and passion for the game, evident by their time here as student-athletes.”

Most recently, Gaito and Lesovsky were co-head coaches for the 16&Under Mystic Softball team in Clairemont. They were responsible for running practices and in-game managing.

As student-athletes, Gaito and Lesovsky are two of the most decorated athletes to ever play at Triton Softball Field. The two were pivotal pieces in bringing home the 2011 NCAA Division II national championship, the program’s first national title and the 30th overall for UCSD as an institution.

The 2011 squad set a program record of 45 wins before matching that total the following year. The duo led the Tritons to back-to-back title game appearances, finishing as the national runner-up in 2012.

“Camille and Kris were a huge part of our national championship,” said Gerckens. “They bring a lot of experience, respect and knowledge from their time here as Tritons. Everyone is excited to have them back.”

Individually, Gaito and Lesovsky received numerous honors and rewrote the single-season and career record books as Tritons.

Gaito received All-America honors three times, was named to the All-CCAA First Team three years and earned Academic All-District selection once. After a stellar 2011 campaign, Gaito was tabbed the CCAA Female Athlete of the Year, CCAA Pitcher of the Year, West Region Pitcher of the Year and the NCAA Championship Most Valuable Player. She finished as UCSD’s all-time career leader in wins (98), appearances (154), complete games (101), saves (9), innings pitched (877.2) and strikeouts (617).

Lesovsky garnered All-America distinction three years, received All-CCAA First Team respects four times and was named All-West Region each season in her career. She was chosen as the West Region Player of the Year after compiling a school-record .446 batting average in 2009. Lesovsky finished as the Tritons’ all-time career leader in average (.386), runs (183), hits (276), doubles (66), RBI (130) and walks (146).

Gaito earned a bachelor’s degree in international studies from UC San Diego in 2012, while Lesovsky earned a bachelor’s degree in general biology and language studies from UCSD, also in 2012.
