SAN DIEGO - The UC San Diego women’s swimming and diving team breezed past crosstown rival University of San Diego, 189.5-108.5, in the 2013-14 regular-season finale for both sides at USD’s Sports Center Pool on Saturday afternoon.

The Tritons, who moved up from No. 6 to No. 5 in Friday’s third and final College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division II national poll, completed their dual-meet schedule at 8-6. USD dropped to 1-6.

UCSD, now 11-1-1 over its last 13 annual meetings with the Toreros with back-to-back wins, posted the top mark in 12 of 16 events.

Senior co-captain Anji Shakya and true freshman Jaimie Bryan were the stars for the Tritons, each with three individual victories. Shakya touched the wall first in the 200 free (1:51.95), 200 back (2:07.96) and 500 free (5:02.09), winning all three handily by at least a second and a half.

Shakya also anchored the meet-ending 200 free relay to a first-place finish (1:36.53) behind sophomore Colleen Daley, freshman Austine Lee and junior Sierra Robbins.

Bryan swept the breaststroke events, timing 1:06.62 in the 100 and 2:23.01 in the 200 before also taking the 200 individual medley (2:11.24).

Daley sprinted to victory in the 50 free (23.87) ahead of junior teammate Jaclyn Amog (24.57) and was second in the 100 (53.04). Fellow sophomore Naomi Thomas won the 100 fly (57.83) before placing second behind Bryan minutes later in the 200 IM (2:14.31). She was second earlier in her best event, the 200 fly (2:06.69).

Sandy Hon went a season-best 58.63 to earn top honors in the 100 back by more than a full second over the field. Another fourth-year senior, Natalie Mouzooni, scored a 208.95 on the one-meter springboard, the highest total among four competitors. The two diving events were held at UCSD’s Canyonview Aquatic Center.

UCSD began the swimming portion of the meet with a triumph in the 200 medley relay Hon, Bryan, Lee and anchor Daley went 1:46.96, two seconds faster than the Tritons’ ‘B’ foursome in second (1:48.98).

Keenan Lineback was a double winner for the Toreros in the 1000 free (10:18.28) and 200 fly (2:04.54). The junior was second after Shakya in the 500 free (5:03.81).

The Triton women now join the men in focusing their attention toward the 2014 Pacific Collegiate Swimming & Diving Conference (PCSC) Championships, to be held again in La Mirada, Feb. 12-15.
