LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's golf team will host the 64th Annual SoCal Intercollegiate Championship March 10-11 at Maderas Golf Club in Poway. Eight teams, as well as six individuals, will be competing.
CSUDH, CSUMB, CSUSB, CSUS and UCSD all compete in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Central Oklahoma and Southwest Baptist play in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA), while St. Mary's is out of the Heartland Conference.
Cal State Monterey Bay is ranked fourth nationally, while Cal State Stanislaus is 14th. Central Oklahoma and UC San Diego are receiving votes in the poll.
From the black tees, Maderas features a par-72, 7,167-yard layout. The Johnny Miller course has been named the top-rated course in San Diego County for seven consecutive years by the Zagat Survey. Maderas offers beauty and challenge as it winds through cliffs, rock outcroppings, creeks, and forests of the inland hill country of north San Diego.
Last year's SoCal Intercollegiate Championship was held at Mission Viejo Country Club in Orange County. Cal State Stanislaus bested the 16-team field for the second-straight season, while Alex Carpenter of Abilene Christian won the individual title. UCSD placed seventh as Jay Lim was the Tritons' top golfer, tying for 10th. Clayton Yamaguchi also finished in the top 15, tying for 13th.

So far this season, UC San Diego has competed in five tournaments - Chico State's Wildcat Classic (T-8th of 15), the Sonoma State Invitational (3rd of 14), Cal State Monterey Bay's Otter Invitational (5th of 15), Cal State San Marcos' Cougar Invitational (5th of 12) and Cal State San Bernardino's Coyote Classic (5th of 17).
Lim owns UCSD's best individual result, placing in a tie for fifth at the Sonoma State Invitational. Yamaguchi holds a team-best 73.9 stroke average. For complete 2013-14 statistics, click here.
Action at the SoCal Intercollegiate Championship gets underway Monday as the first two rounds will be played with a shotgun start slated for 7:30 a.m. The third and final round will go off at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
