Triton Linksters Kickoff Fall Season At California State Intercollegiate in Hemet

HEMET, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's golf team opened the 2011-12 season on Monday with the first two rounds of the inaugural California State Intercollegiate Golf Tournament at the Diamond Valley Golf Club in Hemet. The Tritons followed an opening round 299 with a 295 in round two to finish the day with an overall tally of 594.

UCSD currently sits in sixth place entering Tuesday's final round, just two strokes behind fifth place University of La Verne.

Cal Baptist shot a combined 570 on the Par 72, 6,776-yard course to lead the team competition through two rounds of play. The Master's College sits nine strokes back at 579, while Point Loma Nazarene and Cal State San Marcos are tied for third place at 582.

Newcomer Jay Lim is leading the way for UCSD with an even 144 (71-73) after the first two rounds. He is currently in ninth place overall. Sophomore Jacob Williams is tied for 10th at 146 (73-73), while fellow sophomore David Smith is also among the top 20 competitors after concluding his day in 19th place at 149 (76-73).

Thane Ringler of The Master's College posted rounds of 67 and 66 to grab hold of the lead with a day one score of 133. Ringler leads Cal Baptist's Fredrik Hanson by a single stroke entering the final round.

Point Loma Nazarene's Ryan Ellerbock (140) and Kevin Gorman (141) sit in third and fourth place, respectively, while three players are tied for fifth at 142.

The California State Intercollegiate concludes Tuesday with the third and final round beginning at 7:30 a.m.
