CHULA VISTA, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's golf team currently holds a share of eighth place after one full round at the 2012 San Diego Intercollegiate on Monday at the San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista.

The Tritons were tied with the University of San Diego after carding an opening round 306 and sat 22 strokes behind the University of Washington heading into Round 2, but the second round was suspended due to darkness with all but three groups finishing. Play will resume at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Freshman Marc Herrmann led the way for the Tritons with an opening round 73 on the par-72, 7,033-yard layout. His score was good enough for a share of 11th place.

Fellow rookie Jay Lim fired a 76, followed by sophomores Jacob Williams and Lewis Simon, who posted a 78 and 79, respectively. Lim is tied for 38th place, while Williams has a share of 56th place and Simon is tied for 63rd.

Freshman Skyler Mednick is UCSD's fifth player in the tournament and carded an 86 in the opening round.

Washington shot a 4-under par, 284 in Round 1 to grab a four-stroke lead over USC. Host San Diego State was third with a 294, followed by Tennessee in fourth at 295 and UCLA in fifth at 296.

UW's Chris Williams and USC's Martin Trainer hold the individual lead following 70s in the opening round. Chen-Tsung Pan and Trevor Simsby, also of Washington, are tied for third after carding identical 71s.

The San Diego Intercollegiate will wrap up with the conclusion of Round 2 and all of Round 3 on Tuesday. The tournament features several top Division I programs, including two-time defending national champion Augusta State, No. 4 UCLA, No. 5 Washington, No. 8 Stanford and No. 12 USC. Teams from all five major universities in San Diego are also part of the field.
