FULLERTON, Calif. - Playing in its fifth straight match away from home, the UC San Diego women's tennis team was defeated, 5-2, by NCAA Division I opponent Cal State Fullerton Thursday afternoon at Titan Courts.

UCSD fell to 4-2 overall while Cal State Fullerton won its fourth consecutive contest to up its season mark to 5-4. The Titans won the doubles point as well as four of six singles matches.

Freshman Kyra Scott continued her winning ways for the Tritons, defeating Monica Rodriguez in straight sets (6-2, 6-1) at the No. 2 spot. The Orange County native is now 5-0 in singles play during her inaugural collegiate season.

Junior Tara Vanooteghem also kept her perfect record intact, improving to 6-0 by downing Malorie de la Cruz at No. 5 (4-6, 6-0, 6-2).

At No. 6 singles, senior Jacquelyn Davis lost a hard-fought battle against Rebekkah Ermac. Davis won the opening set, 7-6, while Ermac came back to take the second, 6-4, forcing a tiebreaker. Ermac edged Davis, 10-8, to take the win.

Davis and freshman Paula Chou represented UCSD at No. 2 in the doubles order and dispatched de la Cruz and Avriel Tomaiko, 8-4. The duo boasts a 5-1 record thus far in 2013.

UCSD, ranked 32nd nationally, plays its next seven matches in La Jolla, starting with Western New Mexico on Feb. 25 (1 p.m.).
