LA JOLLA, Calif. - James McCann recorded a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds to propel the UC San Diego men's basketball team to an 80-70 victory over California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opponent Cal State East Bay Friday night in front of 1,146 fans at RIMAC Arena.

The win, which ended a two-game slide for UCSD, moved the Tritons to 6-5 overall and 2-5 in the CCAA. CSUEB, which has now dropped three of its last four games, fell to 6-7 and 3-4.

McCann went 6-for-14 from the field, including a three-pointer, and 10-for-11 from the free throw line. His 10 boards were a career-high and he also dished out seven assists in the victory. McCann scored 21 of his 23 points in the second half.

Four other Tritons totaled 10 or more points, including Adam Klie (11), Aleks Lipovic (11), Drew Dyer (10) and Zach McMillan (10). Klie and McMillan were both 4-for-6 shooting. Klie drained both of his three-point attempts and added three steals, while McMillan pulled down eight rebounds. Hunter Walker matched Klie with three swipes.

The Pioneers received a team-high 16 points out of Gabe Kindred, while Mark Samuels added 14 points. Ryan Hebebrand posted a double-double of his own with 11 points and 10 boards.

Overall, UCSD shot 48 percent (28-59) on the night, while CSUEB finished at 44 percent (27-62). The Tritons held a 42-32 advantage in rebounding.

The Tritons led by as many as eight points in the opening half and held a 37-34 lead at halftime. However, the Pioneers came out strong in the second frame and led, at times by six points, for almost the first 13 minutes of the half. Down 68-67 with 3:50 left in the game, McCann hit a pair of free throws to put UCSD in front for good. A free throw by MacKenzie McCullough with just six seconds remaining put the Tritons up by 12, 80-68, their largest lead of the contest.

UCSD concludes a season long, six game home streak when it hosts league opponent Cal State Monterey Bay Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The Otters (4-6, 2-5) lost at No. 14 Cal State San Bernardino, 96-86, Friday night.
