Men's Tennis Dominates Hawaii Hilo Again

AZUSA, Calif. - For the second time this season, the 11th-ranked UC San Diego men's tennis team dominated Hawaii Hilo, winning by a score of 8-1 Sunday on the campus of Azusa Pacific University.

UCSD (12-6) got out to a quick 3-0 lead by sweeping the doubles matches. At No. 1, Max Jiganti and Kona Luu defeated Tom Greer-Smitha nd Kainoa Rosa, 9-7. The duo of Jiganti and Luu is ranked 22nd nationally.

Also winning in doubles play were Alexandre Miaule and Horea Porutiu at No. 2 and Rajeev Herekar and Mark Meyer at No. 3.

All five of the Tritons' singles victories came in straight sets. Herekar (No. 2), Ganesh Alagappan (No. 3), Porutiu (No. 4), Luu (No. 5) and Andrew Malozsak (No. 6) were all winners.

The Vulcans' only win came at No. 1 singles as Rosa defeated Jiganti in a tiebreaker, 6-3, 4-6 and 10-7.

UC San Diego topped Hawaii Hilo by the same 8-1 count on Feb. 14 in Hawaii.

UCSD plays at Holy Names in Oakland on Friday, April 4 (1 p.m.).
