LOS ANGELES - Senior Erik Elliott collected four wins Friday, two in the singles draw and another two in doubles, as the Tritons' contingent of four players put together a strong showing during day two of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) West Region Championships.

The three-day competition, held at Cal State L.A.'s courts in the Billie Jean Tennis Complex, features four men's squads from the region. Due to the smaller draw, the four UCSD student-athletes earned byes through Thursday's action.

Starting up Friday, the play of Elliott and Austin West stood out for Triton fans. Elliott topped Sonoma State's Stewart Hutton, 6-3, 6-1, in the morning and then defeated Grand Canyon's Ahmad Saleem, 6-3, 6-2, in the afternoon. Up next in the singles draw, Elliott will challenge SSU's Matt Roberts at 9 a.m. Saturday. BYU-Hawaii's Rong Ma, the tournament's top seed, takes on GCU's Patrice Giraldi on the opposite side of the bracket.

Later on Friday, Elliott and West paired together to take down two different GCU pairs in doubles action. First, the UCSD duo defeated Will Herbert and Eric Schroeder, 8-2. Then, Elliott and West dealt Kevin Anderson and Jacob Spitzman an 8-1 defeat. In Saturday's 3 p.m. doubles final, Elliott and West are pitted against the No. 1 seed - BYUH's Ma and Agnel Peter.

The singles and doubles champions from this weekend's tournament will advance to the USTA/ITA Small College National Championships, which will be held Oct. 14-17 at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center.

Also in action Friday, Vincent Nguyen, Sam Ling and West were handed losses in singles. The pair of Nguyen and Ling fell in the second round of doubles play.
