The UC San Diego men's tennis team has won its 12th straight match to start the 2011 campaign with a 6-3 victory over Hawaii Pacific on Saturday afternoon at Northview Tennis Courts.
UCSD (12-0) No. 1 and No. 2 singles seeds Erik Elliott and Chapman Chan dropped their respective matches, but the remaining four Tritons defeated their HPU (7-3) opponents to give UCSD a 4-2 edge on the singles side. Austin West traversed three sets to finally take down his counterpart, Matiss Libietis, 0-6, 6-1, 6-2.
Elliott-West combined to take down the Davis-Libieties pair of HPU, 8-3, on the doubles side. Chan was also victorious with his partner Jason Wall, 9-8, in doubles.
UCSD took down HPU previously this season, 5-4, at the Grand Canyon Invitational on Feb. 12. The Tritons will welcome Lafayette College (4-1) to Northview at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow.
