Release: Friday 03/25/2011
LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's tennis team won every match of Friday afternoon's match-up against Sonoma State, taking down the Seawolves, 9-0, without dropping a single set a Northview Tennis Courts.

The Tritons improve to 14-0. SSU drops to 0-9.

"I was very happy we came back competitively after a long layoff," said UCSD head coach Eric Steidlmayer. "Sonoma State was ready, but to a man our guys were up to the task."

No. 1 singles player Erik Elliott took down SSU No. 1 Taylor Bianco, 6-1, 6-2, before combining with Austin West to stompy the No. 1 SSU pair of Bianco and Daniel Heuke, 8-2. Junya Yoshida would defeat Heuke, 6-1, 6-2, on the singles side.

Chapman Chan swept Drexler Dy, 6-2, 6-1, and also teamed with Jason Wall to beat Sonoma's Bryce Vieefer and Jimmy Manning, 8-6. Sam Ling, Vincent Nguyen and West were also winners on the singles side. Ling was the lone Triton to shutout a Seawolf, surrendering no games in a 6-0 set one victory over Anthony Rollins. West had the closest call of the afternoon, edging Stewart Hutton 7-6 during his opening set.

The final Triton pairing of Armaun Emami and Max Jiganti made easy work of Scott Gaynor and Anthony Rollins, 8-3.

UCSD will take on Western New Mexico on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. The Tritons recently beat WNM on March 8, 6-3, at Northview.
