LA JOLLA, Calif. - Senior Erik Elliott of the nationally-ranked UC San Diego men's tennis team was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team for District VIII, it was announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.
A native of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., Elliott led the Tritons to a perfect 20-0 dual match record during the regular season and to the No. 1 seed in the West Region. The Tritons advanced to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championship, where they were defeated No. 10 Columbus State in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
Elliott was the nation's 11th-ranked singles player in 2011 after posting a 17-3 record in the top spot on the ladder for UCSD. Along with partner Austin West, he had a No. 23 doubles ranking with a regular season mark of 18-2.
A Mechanical Engineering major in Warren College, Elliott maintains a 3.58 GPA. He is one of two Tritons to be named to the Capital One Academic All-District At-Large Team, joing of the men's water polo team.
With the award, Elliott is now eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America accolades, which will be voted upon by sports information directors of colleges and universities across the nation in the coming weeks.
