LA JOLLA, Calif. - Three UCSD men's doubles teams continued play in the 123rd Annual Pacific Coast Doubles Championships consolation bracket round of 32 Saturday, with Triton duo Austin West and Devon Sousa winning three rounds. They will go on to compete in the consolation bracket semifinals on Sunday.
West and Sousa defeated Villanova opponents Kyle Grandin and Mark Miller, 6-2, 6-3, and went on to win their round of 16 and quarterfinal matches by walkover defaults. Both were due to injuries on the opposing sides. The UCSD pair will play in the consolation semifinals Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
Two Triton duos fell in the round of 32, as USC's Yannick Hanfmann and Eric Johnson defeated Junya Yoshida and Jason Wall, 6-1, 6-1. Hanfmann and Johnson went on to lose to Tritons Devon Sousa and Austin West in the round of 16. The other UCSD loss came from Sam Ling and Mark Meyer, who fell to UC Berkeley's Nick Andrews and Christoffer Konnigsfeldt, 6-1, 6-2.
West and Sousa will take on either LMU's Nicholas Bjerke/Sebstian Bustamante, independents Zachary Friedman/Nick Hoyle or LMU's Felix Van Kann/Alex Wilton, pending Sunday morning's results.
