Gauchos Take Down Tritons, 6-1, in Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The 19th-ranked UC San Diego men's tennis team lost its third consecutive match Thursday, falling 6-1 at Division I UC Santa Barbara. The Tritons picked up two wins early in doubles, but were swept by the Gauchos in all six singles matches.

The Tritons fell to 12-5 on the season while UCSB improved its record to 10-6. 

In doubles play, UCSD's Austin West and Devon Sousa defeated Mathieu Forget and Benjamin Recknagel at No. 1, 8-6. The West-Sousa duo is ranked fifth in the West Region. Jason Wall and freshman Kona Luu also captured a victory in doubles, beating Mbonisi Ndimande and Ziad Sultan by a margin of 8-5. Wall and Luu are now 12-2 at No. 2 doubles this season.

The Gauchos swept the Tritons in singles, winning all six match-ups in straight sets. At No. 1, Chapman Chan fell to Forget, 6-2, 6-3. Luu had his perfect season tarnished, losing to Axel Bouillin, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 6 on the ladder. Luu is now 12-1 overall in 2012.

UCSD will remain in Santa Barbara as they prepare to face Westmont College on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
