Following nine seasons as an assistant coach with the UC San Diego men's basketball team, Eric Olen was named the program's 12th head coach on Oct. 1, 2013.

Over the past nine seasons, Olen has played an integral part in all aspects of running the program and has served as the Tritons' recruiting coordinator. His primary duties have also included developing UCSD's post players.

Olen joined the UC San Diego coaching staff as a second assistant under head coach Bill Carr for the 2004-05 season. Just one year later, he was promoted to first assistant.

During his tenure at UCSD, Olen has helped guide the Tritons to some of the program's most successful campaigns.

In 2007-08, UCSD posted an 18-12 overall record, its best mark since joining the NCAA Division II ranks prior to the 2000-01 season. The Tritons won their first CCAA Tournament Championship and earned a berth in the NCAA Division II West Regional for the first time in program history.

In 2008-09, the Tritons finished with an overall record of 17-11, recording back-to-back winning seasons for the first time at the Division II level.

UCSD recorded its first winning season at the D-II level in 2005-06, ending the year with a 15-14 overall record. The Tritons finished fourth in the CCAA that season with a league tally of 12-8, marking the program's first winning record in conference play.

While at UCSD, Olen has helped coach players to 14 All-CCAA selections and two Tritons have garnered league Freshman of the Year accolades.

As a player at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Ala., Olen helped the Badgers to three straight appearances in the NAIA National Tournament, including trips to the NAIA Elite Eight in 2000 and 2001. He graduated in 2004 with a degree in finance.
