Release: Wednesday 08/06/2014

LA JOLLA, Calif. - Katie McGann, UC San Diego’s Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Student Services, was recently honored with the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA) Judith M. Sweet Commitment Award.

The award, named after the former NCAA President and UCSD Athletics Director, is bestowed upon non-senior athletics administrators who are committed to providing high-level leadership and guidance while going beyond the call of duty and providing outstanding service to their department.

Honorees are nominated by NACWAA members and selected by the NACWAA Awards Committee.

McGann has been a member of UCSD's Intercollegiate Athletics Department since 2007. She handles all aspects of the university’s compliance and student services programs, including eligibility, academics and financial aid for approximately 600 student-athletes across the department’s 23 intercollegiate teams. She is the department's primary contact for rules questions and interpretations and conducts the rules education program. McGann acts as the liaison with various campus entities, such as admissions, the registrar's office and college advising, while also working closely with the NCAA Eligibility Center. She runs several components of the Champs/Life Skills program including New Student-Athlete Orientation.

McGann also supervises UCSD's fencing and tennis programs.

McGann serves on the NCAA Division II Academic Requirements Committee and will chair the committee this upcoming year. She is a member of the National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC) where she previously served on the Board of Directors and chaired the Division II Committee. A member of NACWAA, she is a 2010 graduate from the NCAA/NACWAA Institute for Administrative Advancement.

McGann has served on various institutional committees and is a former member of the Division II Men’s Tennis Regional Ranking Committee.

She was a four-year letterwinner and team captain for the Tritons' women's basketball team and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2005.
