LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC San Diego Athletics Department announced its fourth annual All-Academic Team on Thursday, recognizing the top student on each qualifying team for their performance in the classroom.
To qualify for the award, the student-athletes must be currently enrolled at UCSD and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher through the 2011 fall quarter. The student-athlete must also have been a member of the team the previous season.
"We take pride in continuing to recognize our student-athletes for their performance in the classroom in addition to their athletic accomplishments," UCSD Director of Athletics Earl W. Edwards said. "That balance between excelling both academically and athletically is really what we're all about."
Recipients of the UC San Diego All-Academic Team award receive a $500 scholarship towards tuition and expenses.
