SANTA ROSA, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's golf team shot 5-under par in Tuesday's third and final round to place third overall at the Sonoma State Invite, played at Santa Rosa Golf and Country Club.

UCSD totaled a 283, its lowest round of the two-day tournament, to finish with an even-par 864 (288-293-283) over three rounds. The Tritons moved up one spot from their fourth-place standing after Monday's opening frames.

Freshman Daniel Yang was the top finisher for UCSD, placing in a tie for eighth with a 3-under 213. The San Diego native went 69-73-71 on the par-72, 6,733-yard course, tying him with Sonoma State's Steven Warne and Michael Timpson of Cal State San Bernardino.

Hawaii-Hilo overcame a 10-stroke deficit heading into Tuesday to defeat second-place Sonoma State by four strokes. The Vulcans were 10-under for the day, carding a 278 to finish with a three-round total of 856 (295-283-278), 8-under par. The Seawolves were 4-over in the third round, giving them a 4-under total of 860 (279-289-292) for the tourney.

Hawaii-Hilo's Jamie Hall bested the field after winning a two-hole playoff against the University of San Francisco's Emil Liljeroth and Sonoma State's Matt Medeiros. All three finished with a 3-under par 210.

Also for UCSD, Jay Lim tied for 12th with a 1-under 215 (72-74-69), while Lewis Simon (75-74-71), Jacob Williams (72-75-73) and Clayton Yamaguchi all tied for 24th by shooting a 4-over total of 220.

The Tritons led the 13-team field with 52 birdies, one more than Hawaii-Hilo and Sonoma State.

UCSD wraps up its fall season at the Monterey Bay Invitational Oct. 22 and 23.
