TRITONS RETURN HOME TO TAKE ON PAIR OF MPSF FOES
After its first true road test of the season at now-top-ranked BYU, UC San Diego (3-4, 2-2 MPSF) heads into another three-match homestand beginning with a pair of Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) foes currently rated in the top 10. The Tritons play host to ninth-ranked Cal State Northridge (3-1, 1-1 MPSF) on Friday night, Jan. 25, at 7 p.m. The seventh-ranked Long Beach State 49ers (5-2, 3-1 MPSF) are then in town for another 7 p.m. tilt the following night on Saturday, Jan. 26. The Tritons and 49ers have already met once this season, with UCSD getting edged in five sets in the third-place match at the UC Santa Barbara Asics Invitational back on Jan. 5. Following Saturday night's contest, UCSD will briefly dip back out of conference play to host the Princeton Tigers on Wednesday, Jan. 30. First serve is set for an earlier 5 p.m.

All UCSD home matches inside RIMAC Arena again this season feature a live online video stream as well as live stats, both free of charge. Fans can access live video and live stats from the Schedule/Results tab of the men's volleyball page at UCSDtritons.com.

NATIONAL RUNNERS-UP RECOGNIZED ON SATURDAY
Saturday's match against Long Beach State will feature a 10-minute intermission in between the second and third sets for a special recognition ceremony to raise the national runner-up banner for the UCSD women's soccer team at RIMAC Arena. The Tritons dropped a 1-0 decision to West Florida in the final of the NCAA Division II Championship on Dec. 1 in Evans, Ga.

TRITONS POST SECOND STRAIGHT WEEKEND SPLIT TO OPEN LEAGUE SLATE
UCSD posted a second straight weekend split of conference matches last week. The Tritons first rallied from a 2-1 deficit to earn a five-set victory over MPSF newcomer Cal Baptist on Thursday, Jan. 17. The visiting Lancers had knocked off top-ranked defending national champion UC Irvine, 3-2, the night before. Carl Eberts led the way in producing a match-high 22 kills on .529 hitting (22-4-34) to go along with eight digs. The 22 kills equalled a single-match career high. Vaun Lennon added 10 kills while Nick Iorfino was big off the bench with nine kills of his own. Chase Frishman led all players with 11 digs, with Fred Stahl gaining credit for six total blocks. On Saturday night in Provo, BYU's mastery of the Tritons continued in a 3-0 victory. Eberts again turned in the match high with 13 kills, compiling seven digs to lead all players as well.

TRITONS MOVE UP AGAIN IN AVCA POLL
UCSD advanced in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division I-II Men's Coaches Top 15 Poll for the third week in a row, moving up from No. 13 to No. 12 in Monday's latest release. The Tritons were among five teams receiving votes just outside of the preseason edition of the rankings. They entered the first in-season installment of the poll at No. 14, before advancing to No. 13 on Jan. 14.

EBERTS APPROACHING EXCLUSIVE 1000-KILL CLUB
In his final season of college volleyball, senior outside hitter Carl Eberts needs 156 kills to become just the fifth player in program history to reach the 1,000-kill plateau. The product of Huntington Beach and Edison High School produced 89 kills as a redshirt freshman in 2010, before leading the squad in 2011 and 2012 with 326 and 335 kills, respectively. Matching either of those two campaigns would put Eberts firmly in UCSD's 1000-Kill Club, joining current members and former teammates Jason Spangler (1,491; 2007-10) and Frank Fritsch (1,403; 2007-10), as well as Jim Waller (1,301; 2001-04) and former Triton women's volleyball head coach (2005-09) and current LMU women's coach Tom Black (1,268; 1993-96). Eberts once again paces the team through seven matches this season with 94 kills (3.48/set). He is 10th in the conference.

VETERAN DUO MOVING UP ALL-TIME CHARTS
Carl Eberts and Chase Frishman are each moving up separate all-time lists in the UCSD men's volleyball record book. Eberts has moved into the top-10 in kills, currently in ninth with 844. He is ninth in attacks (1,995) and also looking to enter the all-time lists in the aces (48; six short) and digs (411; 13 short) categories. Frishman, meanwhile, is sixth with 499 digs, and is 108 away from matching Chris Mortimer (2000-03) for second all-time in program history.

CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE NOTES
The ninth-ranked Matadors won a pair of non-conference matches at home last week over Concordia (Jan. 16) and Grand Canyon (Jan. 18), both in three sets. Junior outside hitter Brandon Lebrock leads Cal State Northridge offensively at 3.19 kills per set. Senior opposite John Baker is second in kills (39, 2.44/set) and first in digs (27), while senior middle blocker Jared Moore tops the conference chart with his .513 (23-3-39) hitting percentage. The regular Matador setter is sophomore Travis Magorien (146 assists, 9.12/set), who also has a team-best nine service aces. These sides will meet again at The Matadome in Northridge on March 8. Jeff Campbell is in his 16th season in charge at his alma mater.

LONG BEACH STATE NOTES
Long Beach State moved up two spots in this week's national poll after a perfect 3-0 week in which it upset then-fifth-ranked UCLA on the road, 3-1, before a two-match home sweep of Hawai'i. Junior outside hitter Taylor Crabb was named Monday as the MPSF Molten Player of the Week, having averaged 4.50 kills per set while hitting .379 during those three contests. For the season, Crabb leads the team and is fourth in the MPSF at 4.08 kills per set, while also producing 1.85 digs and 0.77 blocks per set, and seven aces. Junior Connor Olbright directs the 49er offense from the setter position, distributing 10.15 assists per game. Alan Knipe is in his 10th season guiding his alma mater.
