VISTA, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's golf team opened its season Monday and sits in a tie for third place after two rounds of the Cal State San Marcos Cougar Invitational at Shadowridge Country Club.

UCSD totaled a 29-over 605, shooting a 310 in the opening round and coming back to card a 295 over the second 18 holes to move up two spots in the standings.

Oklahoma City sits atop the leaderboard with a 14-over 590 (298-292). Host CSU San Marcos, which led after round one, is a close second at 592 (294-298). The Tritons are tied for third with The Master's College, which shot 302-303--605 on the par-72 layout.

Individually, the Tritons were led by a pair of players tied for 14th overall. Lewis Simon and Daniel Yang both sit at a 6-over 150, mirroring each other with a 77 in the first round and a 73 in the second. Jacob Williams is tied for 25th with a 9-over 153 (77-76), Jay Lim is tied for 42nd with a plus-13 157 (84-73) and Clayton Yamaguchi is tied for 61st with a 20-over 164 (79-85).

It was the first time UCSD had been in action since competing at Cal State Monterey Bay's Otter Invite back in October of 2012.

Last season, the Tritons placed fourth of 12 teams at the Cougar Invitational, also held at Shadowridge.
