CLAREMONT, Calif. - The UC San Diego fencing team once again dominated its competition, sweeping all events at the Intercollegiate Fencing Conference of Southern California (IFCSC) Individual Championships, held Sunday at the Linde Activities Center on the campus of Pomona College.

UCSD owned the top three spots in four of six total events and went 1-2-3-4 in men's sabre and women's foil. Also competing were Arizona State, Caltech, UC Irvine, UCLA and USC.

On the men's side, winners included freshman Eduard Zilinskiy in epee, junior Keric Moore in foil and freshman Travis Tibbitts in sabre.

In men's epee, Zilinskiy was followed by teammates Adam Campbell-Kruger, last year's champion, in second and Luc Ginestet tied for third. Joseph Schenkel was second and Alex Lavin tied for third in foil. The sabre group saw Drew Dickinson in second with Peter Meckling and Bryson Abilay tied for third.

For the women, junior Andrea Gory topped the epee field, freshman Nicole Chiang placed first in foil and junior Munira Gesner was the champion in sabre.

Natalie Chan tied for third in epee. Women's foil featured Victoria Parra in second place with Alina Marshall and Amrit Khalsa in a tie for third. Karinne Caisse and Megan Gesner tied for third in sabre.

UCSD broke new ground in the women's sabre discipline. Entering the competition, no Triton had ever defeated Arizona State senior Holly Moore. That changed Sunday as freshman Isabelle Pinard was able to down Moore in pool play in a five-touch bout. Moore regained form and advanced to the gold medal bout, where Gesner, the squad captain, was able to record a 15-13 victory for the title.

UCSD is next in action at the UC Irvine Duals on Saturday, Feb. 23. The Tritons will compete against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Occidental, UC Santa Barbara and USC.
