by UCSD
CLAREMONT, Calif. - The UC San Diego men's and women's track and field teams combined for six first-place finishes during the 17th Annual Rossi Relays hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Saturday at the Burns Track & Field Complex.

Among five individual event winners for the Tritons were Keith Rose in the 100-meter dash (10.93), junior Eva Isaacs in the shot put (40'11.5"), senior Jessica Miklaski in the javelin (143'4"), junior Benjamin Berthet in the pole vault (15'5.5") and Zach Nagengast in the discus (161'5").

Rose, a sophomore out of San Jose, and Nagengast, a fourth-year senior, were each repeat winners from the season opener a week ago, the UCSD Triangular in La Jolla. Rose had doubled then in the 100 (10.94) and 200, while Nagengast took the discus (153'10") and hammer throw. Both posted improved marks in their wins.

Isaacs and Miklaski also duplicated their triumphant 2013 debuts in their specialties from one week prior.

In addition, the Tritons' 4x800 relay foursome of Lorato Anderson, Corinne Hinkle, Sabrina Pimentel and Toni Sarge timed 9:31.86 to finish first.

Lauren Irish (1:04.32) and Nash Howe (199'8") had second-place showings in the 400 hurdles and javelin, respectively. Sydney Blakeley and Megan Benham shared second place with USC's Thea Weiss at 11'7.75" in the women's pole vault, while Clint Rosser tied for second in the men's event with a height of 14'11.5". Julia Wildenthaler tied for second in the high jump (5'5.75").

Remaining top-five individual finishers included Jeffrey Lim (4th, 15.27) in the 110 hurdles, Michelle Woodruff (4th, 5'3.75") and Sean Cook (4th, 6'4") in the high jump, Ryan Eckert (4th, 45'2.25") in the shot put, Nagengast (3rd, 181'8") and A.B. Shaheen (4th, 179'2") in the hammer throw, Kristin Sato (3rd, 17'9.5") and Kristen Daugherty (4th, 17'7") in the long jump, Kiley Libuit (4th, 191'8") in the javelin, Chantia Justice (4th, 37'10.75") in the triple jump, and Isaacs (4th, 134'9"), Uchenna Agbahiwe (5th, 130'2") and Matt Endler (4th, 148'9") in the discus.

The UCSD men's 4x800 relay team (8:05.35) was second only to the host Stags (7:58.19), while the women's 4x400 (3:55.54) was third behind two USC foursomes.

On the first date that qualifying marks could be posted for the 2013 NCAA Division II Championships, UCSD student-athletes achieved nine, with six by the men and three by the women. They were Howe, Nagengast (discus and hammer), Berthet, Shaheen, Libuit, Miklaski, Blakeley and Benham, all in the field events.

"This was an exceptional day for us, particularly in the field events," summed up Triton men's head coach Tony Salerno. "I don't think we have ever had so many national qualifying marks this early in the year. This sets us up real well for next week when we face our sister schools at the All-Cal meet at UC Irvine."

The Tritons return to action in Irvine next Saturday, March 2, competing at the All-Cal Challenge beginning at 10 a.m.
